How Deux’s Decadence Influenced my album Upside Down.

Album Cover For Decadence.

Decadence by the French duo Deux is an album that transcends time for me, Released by Minimal Wave Records, Decadence showcases the minimalist synth compositions of Gérard Pelletier and Cati Tête, blending elements of Kraftwerk's precision with the cool elegance of French synth pop.

Tracks, like "Dance With Me" and "Paris / Orly," resonate with a timeless quality, showcasing amazing downtempo rhythms and distinct cold wave aesthetics.

For me, Decadence was a revelation. Its minimalist approach and emotive undertones inspired my own work, leading to the creation of Upside Down. Released in 2025, it draws from the sparse yet evocative style of Deux. I feel tracks like "Upside Down" mirror some of the emotive styles found in Deux's work, while maintaining a modern sensibility.

The influence of Decadence is deep in my production choices for Upside Down. Embracing a minimalist ethos, focusing on the emotional resonance of each note. In essence, Decadence laid the groundwork for Upside Down. It provided a sonic blueprint that I could reinterpret and adapt, infusing it with personal experiences and modern influences.
